Well people, it’s officially Grammys weekend in NYC. Did you know that this year’s Grammy Awards were moved up to accommodate for the Winter Olympics? That’s right, if you think back, you’ll remember that last year’s ceremony was on February 12th. I kinda like it this way, it makes 2017 feel more recent before the 2018 releases start pouring in. Speaking of 2018 releases, the year’s first big records are beginning to emerge, especially here at The Orchard. Let’s take a look at what we have #OutToday.
If the name Waterparks rings a bell, you may remember them from their momentous Best Breakthrough Artist win at the 2017 AP Music Awards. The pop-punk band’s debut LP Entertainment drops today and this thing lives up to the hype. Waterparks’ knack for stuck-in-your-head hooks and satisfying breakdowns is unparalleled. This week also marked the release of groundbreaking French film BPM. The movie follows the powerful fight to bring HIV/AIDS care to the forefront in government and pharmaceuticals. Driven by the ACT UP organization, these people pushed their cause with rallies, protests and literal life-or-death urgency. See the trailer below and watch BPM here.
Last up, a collab album between two of hip-hop’s finest: Apollo Brown and Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah. Back in 2013, AB reworked Ghost’s concept album 12 Reasons To Die, fitting each song with a new beat and giving a different life to the record. Fast forward to 2018, when the good folks at Mello Music decide to give the mixtape a proper release under it’s original name The Brown Tape.
