Hello and happy Friday to all. The weather outside is getting a bit warmer and things are starting to heat up here at The Orchard, as well. This week, we’ll tackle your new favorite party band, deliver something new for our alternative fans and present one of our most exciting films to date. Let’s take a look at what’s out today by The Orchard.
We’ve talked quite a bit about the infamous Red Baraat here on The Rind and for good reason: these dudes know how to get the people going. Eight members strong with all sorts of instruments I’ve never heard, Red Baraat fills a stage with musicians and fills any space with sonic electricity. Their eclectic mix of rock, hip hop and Bhangra results in some powerful dance music. Our friends at NPR even deemed them “The best party band in years.” After months of anticipation, their album Bhangra Pirates arrives today via Rhyme & Reason Records. The next release is also far from traditional. The folks at Instant Records have launched an initiative to celebrate womanhood that they call Instant Love. The idea of the project is to have songs written by men for women reimagined and covered BY women FOR women. These bi-weekly releases will be added to an Instant Love playlist over time, creating an album that is alive and grows over time. Pretty cool, right? Anyways, Instant Love released their second single this week: Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love” performed by the legendary Irma Thomas. Listen to the track below and find the playlist here.
Rounding out this week is the digital release of the Golden Globe nominated film Neruda. In one of our most exciting films to date, Neruda follows a Chilean poet named Pablo Neruda that was exiled from Chile for his communist beliefs. The poet takes this banishment as a literary challenge, going into hiding and leading the police on with hints riddled in poems. A true story, believe it or not. The film was directed by Pablo Larrain, who also caught attention with his film Jackie, and stars Gael García Bernal. Watch the trailer below and see download it here.
