Romantic norteño music, a popular style of Mexican music, is a mix of saxophone, accordion and bass that has been notable in the Chihuahua and San Luis Potos states of Mexico for decades. In 2008, Dallas-based group La Energía Norteña was perfecting this genre of music state-side for weddings and quinceañeras. It wasn’t until a local talent show win in 2011 that they were scouted and signed by Azteca Records the following year, thus joining an exclusive group of Mexican and Latin genre music.
La Energía Norteña’s first album, “Thinking of You” debuted in 2013 and kick started their first cross-country US tour and ascension on Mexico’s radio waves. This cross-border exposure lead to a 2014 album titled “Crossing Territory,” which lept to the number one spot on the iTunes Mexican Regional album chart and later led to winning the group’s first Latin Grammy for Best Northern Music Album. Since, La Energía Norteña has earned more debuts at #1 on iTunes and continue to perform around the country.
Azteca Records was established in 2011 with the mission to “be a leading company in the musical field committed to a new and great talents to transmit high quality music and entertainment to the public.” Based in Dallas, the label has their ear to the ground for Latin music in a unique territory. Their Dallas location sets them apart from larger labels based in Los Angeles and Mexico City; it’s a city characterized by its variety in world music. That variety is reflected in acts like La Energía Norteña that transcend borders and continues to bring the magic of norteño music to their fans.
Keep your ears peeled for new music coming from La Energía Norteña!
