The entire music industry is buzzing as the Recording Academy announce the 2020 GRAMMY Music Nominations. The Orchard’s artists and label partners have earned upwards of 50 nominations. Congratulations to all of the nominees for your recognized talent and hard work!
The Orchard is proud to work with artists and labels across a wide range of genres and categories. Killswitch Engage (Metal Blade Records) earned a nomination for Best Metal Performance for their single “Unleashed”. These hard rockers aren’t new to The GRAMMYs though, as this is their third time being nominated for Best Metal Performance. Rock on!
In the jazz sphere, The Orchard distributed artists earned seven total nominations. Six-time GRAMMY Award winning bassist Christian McBride (Mack Avenue) celebrates three new GRAMMY nominations, including: Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Best Improvised Jazz Solo, and Best Instrumental Composition. McBride’s album New Jawn gives homage to his hometown, Philadelphia. The album name plays with the Philly colloquialism “jawn”, an all-purpose term for a person, place, or thing. Christian isn’t the only Mack Avenue artist to earn a spot on this year’s list of honorees, Julian Lage, Joey DeFrancesco and Cyrille Aimée have also made the ballot.
Another multi-nominated release, Pete Seeger: The Smithsonian Folkways Collection has been listed for both Best Historical Album and Best Liner Notes. The special six-CD collection is accompanied by a full-length book about Seeger written by the label’s archivist and curator, Jeff Place. It’s Jeff’s writing that earned the release it’s later nomination. Additional Smithsonian Folkway nominees include Mariachi Los Camperos for Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano), and Our Native Daughters for Best American Roots Song.
Music’s Biggest Night will be broadcasted on January 26th at 8PM ET on CBS live from the STAPLES Center. Tune in and cross your fingers!
