The Latin American Music Awards have announced their nominations for the 2021 award show after taking a hiatus last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 Latin American Music Awards will be broadcasted live on Telemundo on April 15 starting at 7PM ET from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida, hosted by Mexican actress Jacqueline Bracamontes.
The Latin American Music Awards are all about the fans. The nominations are based on fan interaction with the music – such as streaming, sales, airplay, and social data – from January 17, 2020, through January 21, 2021. Fans also determine the winners through online voting.
With live shows being moved online the past 12 months, the show has appropriately added a brand new category, Favorite Virtual Concert. Nominated in this category is Puerto Rican reggaeton superstar Ozuna (Aura Music) for his live stream event ‘Latinos Unidos’ and Yandel for his live stream ‘Goodbye 2020‘. Ozuna is nominated for seven categories in total: Artist of the Year, Favorite Artist – Male, Favorite Song – Urban, Collaboration of the Year, Favorite Video, Favorite Virtual Concert, as well as Favorite Song – Pop for his feature with Black Eyed Peas.
At the last Latin AMAs, Anuel AA (Real Hasta La Muerte) took home the highest number of awards, including the two heavyweight categories Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. This year Anuel AA sees five total nominations: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Favorite Artist – Male, Favorite Artist – Urban, and Favorite Album – Urban. Anuel AA’s nominated album Emmanuel was a complete surprise to fans when he dropped it in May 2020. Emmanuel debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums & Latin Rhythm Albums Charts.
