The Orchard Recognizes Juneteenth

People across the U.S. commemorate Juneteenth, a day dedicated to honoring and celebrating the emancipation of America’s last enslaved Black Americans on June 19, 1865—over two years after President Lincoln declared all enslaved persons were free. This day holds significance, remembrance, and resilience—denoting a pivotal moment in our history for Black Americans’ journey towards the promise of freedom.

The Black community has marked this occasion for many years as a celebration with joyful gatherings and expressions of cultural pride. That’s why this U.S. holiday is also known as “Freedom Day” or “Emancipation Day,” a chance to celebrate freedom while reflecting on the ongoing struggle for systemic and racial justice worldwide and to honor Black history as American history.
