NYC was in tip-top shape last night as people all over the city walked the streets dressed to the nines in the spirit of “music’s biggest night,” which took place at the legendary Madison Square Garden. The Orchard also followed suit, raising glasses with our labels and artists in honor of our nominees and winners. When all was said and done, The Orchard’s artists took home 10 Grammy Awards, the most in our company’s history. We congratulate our nominees and winners, we are incredibly fortunate to work with you everyday.
Our friends at Thirty Tigers had quite a night, taking home four awards for wins by Jason Isbell and CeCe Winans (via Pure Springs Gospel). Isbell dominated the Americana category, earning Best Americana Album for the spectacular LP The Nashville Sound, as well as Best American Roots Song for the record’s centerpiece “If We Were Vampires.” Gospel powerhouse CeCe Winans won Best Gospel Album for Let Them Fall In Love and Best Gospel Performance/Song for “Never Have To Be Alone.”
Aside from “interrupting” Kendrick Lamar’s opening performance, Dave Chappelle returned to the Grammys stage to accept the Best Comedy Album award for his record The Age Of Spin & Deep In The Heart Of Texas. Chappelle‘s short and sweet acceptance speech gave thanks to Netflix, Saturday Night Live, Chappelle Show and his family, ending with an understated “see you on Monday.”
Masterful singer/songwriter Aimee Mann earned the coveted Best Folk Album trophy for her fantastic 2017 effort Mental Illness. However, she was unable to accept the award in New York as she happened to be on stage in Cleveland as part of her tour. According to Cleveland.com, the audience congratulated her during her set at Music Box Supper Club.
