Naomi Raine – Journey (TRIBL)
Known for her iconic vocals, Naomi Rane is one of the breakout stars from GRAMMY® Award-Winning supergroup, Maverick City Music. Naomi’s powerful vocals have been heard on Maverick City Music’s No.1 singles, “Jireh,” and “Promises,” as well as the holiday classic, “Revelation 19:1.” Her heartwarming lyrics and powerful melodies have garnered her the ability to easily connect with fans of the R&B and Gospel genre through songwriting and singing. Naomi’s debut solo album, Journey, features vulnerable and emotional lyrics that showcase her dynamic vocals and urban inspirational sound. With beautifully crafted lyrics, Journey is a 22-track album that showcases interludes of Naomi detailing her journey of self-discovery interwoven between musical layers. The album was inspired by Naomi’s yearn for the love of God, and it comes as the result of her silent struggle with mental health and a deep desire for personal change.
Apollo Brown – This Must Be the Place (Mello Music)
Michigan producer Apollo Brown is well-known for his contributions to the hip-hop / rap genre by redefining and broadening the idea of what boom bap production can sound like. This Must Be the Place is Brown’s latest release and is both a continuation of his 2011 album, Clouds, and a departure from it. Unlike the melancholic theme featured heavily throughout Clouds, This Must Be the Place trades somberness for unique slamming, gritty, and poignant beats that capture warm nostalgia and glimmers of hope. Drawing heavily from the joy he found in his family, friends, and career, This Must Be the Place is the result of Apollo’s reflective gratitude and the happiness that came from realizing his dream life. Featuring 21 wide-ranging productions, This Must Be the Place inspires deep reflection and teleports listeners above the clouds and into the far depths of the cosmos. At every twist and turn, the album’s dynamic mixture of thumping grooves, ethereal intergalactic funk, and wistful jazz tunes inspire listeners to appreciate living the life they imagined or push themselves as they navigate there.
Metric – Formentera (Metric Music International, Inc. / Thirty Tigers)
Indie rock band, Metric, prevails as an iconic and critically acclaimed band, staying true to their roots while simultaneously creating music that is both genre-defying and genre-defining. Composed of Emily Haines, Jimmy Shaw, bassist Joshua Winstead and drummer Joules Scott Key, Metric is releasing their brand new album, Formentera, which is the follow-up to 2018’s Art of Doubt. Naming their album after a picturesque island off the coast of Spain, Metric was heavily inspired by the idea that even real places become imaginary when they are so far out of reach. For Metric, Formentera was a place that only existed on a page in a “dream destinations” travel book. A book which lay on a desk in a brand new recording studio that guitarist Jimmy Shaw built in 2020, in a rural hamlet north of Toronto. This is the setting where the band’s eighth album took shape. After an almost 25-year history, Formentera is a testament to the fact that Metric is still at the peak of its creative power – making sense of the unknown surrounding us, and blazing a path through it.
