The nominees for the 2017 Juno Awards have been announced and include a number of The Orchard’s note-worthy Canadian releases. The Juno Awards will take place in Ottawa, Canada at the Canadian Tire Centre on April 2nd at 5PM PDT on CTV.
Despised Icon landed on the list of nominees with their fifth studio album Beast. The vocal contrast of Steve Marois and Alex Erian generates a sound for all types of metal-lovers. With engaging lyrics, perfectly placed breakdowns and powerful riffs, it is no surprise that Beast, brought to us from Nuclear Blast, is nominated for Heavy Metal Album of the Year.
The Family Album by Jill Barber & Matthew Barber is also in the running for a Juno Award. The Outside Music release is self-produced by the sibling duo and blends folk subtleties into an album that exemplifies a breath of fresh air. The first album unifying these solo artists also includes a half dozen covers that they transformed to add their own airy Canadian-Americana twist. The combination of dreamy ballads and country knee-slappers earn Jill and Matthew Barber a nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year.
